Course Structure

  • A selection of unit standards with a minimum of 30 Credits is required
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic concepts of telecommunications
  • Describe data communications
  • Describe Synchronous/ Asynchronous Communication with computers
  • Apply the principles of supporting users of local area networks
  • Assemble a personal computer or handheld computer and peripherals from modules
  • Demonstrate an understanding of computer network communication
  • Demonstrate an understanding of hardware components for personal computers or handheld computers
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of electronic logic for computing
  • Describe and install a facsimile machine
  • Describe and install colour copiers/printers
  • Describe and install computer printers
  • Describe and install high-volume photocopier machines
  • Describe and install photocopier machines
  • Describe and install scanning systems
  • Describe computer cabling
  • Install a local area network
  • Install a personal computer or handheld computer and peripherals
  • Install networked computer application software
  • Install system software and application software for a personal computer or hand-held computer
  • Repair a personal computer or hand-held computer to module level
